Born as a former hospital of the city of Assisi, one of the first in all of Italy, the Palazzo Monte Frumentario was built in 1267 outside the first Roman circle, on the side, further down the road that still leads to the Saint Francis Basilica. The entrance to the building - the latter spreading over three floors and overlooking Via Fontebella, alley "degli Esposti" and Via San Francesco - is introduced by a seven-arch porch. These arches are of the segmental variety, supported by columns with Byzantine capitals carved by Venetian stonemasons. The facade is decorated with frescoes painted by an Umbrian follower of Giotto (1300 ca). Once inside, you can find a large hall decorated with neo-Gothic frescoes and illuminated by a large window that opens onto the valley.
