Montedison gave to the City of Assisi the main building of the complex, which was used to play basketball and, since 1978 and in other areas, to practice boxing. In 1982 the City Council approved the purchase of the entire building to turn it to a sports facility. In 1984 the National Centre for Boxing Olympic Training was created, a multipurpose gym for basketball and bowling. Subsequently, the American patron Richard Leach created the "Lyric Theatre" there. The current redevelopment, with the creation of the Museum of Sports and Boxing and the 'PalaEventi' (an area for Socio-Cultural Events, Trade Shows, Conferences and Sporting Events), offers an extraordinary multifunctional space.
